Exploring Beedle the Bard ReviewThis is the FIRST book of literary criticism about J. K. Rowling's "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" to be published. It offers discussion of each of the five tales, along with contextual material that helps in understanding them. The book suggests that "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" is uneven in quality. Two of the tales are excellent (The Fountain of Fair Fortune, The Tale of the Three Brothers); one is excellent though flawed by the bleakness of its vision (The Warlock's Hairy Heart); two are for different reasons weaker (Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump, The Wizard and the Hopping Pot). The notes supposedly by Dumbledore provide at times an interesting insight into J. K. Rowling's thinking, at times seem little better than padding.
