The Unofficial Guide to Britain's Best Days Out, Theme Parks and Attractions (Unofficial Guides) ReviewThese two co-authors of the unofficial guide to Walt Disney World (ding), together with an award-winning newspaper travel writer, have gone all round England, Scotland and Wales with a very specific thing in mind: theme parks and other attractions not so often written about elsewhere. If you are looking for the ins and outs of London and the South-East of England, this is not for you - there are numerous books on that subject elsewhere.Instead, the authors have reviewed 91 theme parks and attractions, mostly from central and northern England, and the South West of England. There is major coverage of Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures, Legoland Windsor, Alton Towers and Blackpool Pleasure Beach, with 20 to 40 pages on each. However, what I will find equally useful is the highlighting of hidden gems, on which this book spends four or five pages on each. Whilst everyone in Yorkshire may know about Flamingo Land, readers living elsewhere, planning a vacation, now have ready resource of numerous places to go, especially if they have young kids.
The information provided is extremely invaluable, and the humour from the Walt Disney World guide is evident throughout, with such comments as "we asked for hazard pay after riding" and "half the family will stay dry and the other half will be wet to the bone. Ride twice." being part of the reviews for two of the rides. The touring plans for the big parks will also be invaluable.
Overall, I would consider this book a must buy, and should be essential reading for planning a British holiday, if you have a few days spare after seeing the major tourist sights. The Unofficial Guide to Britain's Best Days Out, Theme Parks and Attractions (Unofficial Guides) Overview
